Riverside Healthcare: Illinois’ Healthiest Employer

Crain’s Chicago Business announces award

While the mission of Riverside Healthcare is to take care of its patients, apparently the healthcare provider also does an outstanding job of taking care of its employees as well. Riverside was recently named Illinois’ Healthiest Employer by Crain’s Content Studio, a division of Crain’s Chicago Business.

Cigna’s Midwest Market President Brian Marsella, who presented the awards during a virtual webcast program, noted the highly unusual circumstances of this year’s competition and the importance to build worker resilience in the wake of the pandemic. “Focusing on the whole person—body and mind—is essential,” he said.

“Wellness is something we are very passionate about at Riverside – not only for our patients but also for our employees and their families, too.” said Becky Hinrichs, Vice President of Human Resources.

“Our Riverside Employee Wellness program, REACH (Riverside Employees Actively Choosing Health), is unique and provides access to numerous health and wellness opportunities, education, and interventional programs. The program is perpetually growing. REACH enables employees to make and maintain real lifestyle changes to improve health, integrate work and life and achieve a higher quality in their daily lives, as well.”

Illinois’ Healthiest Employer Awards is a corporate wellness program that encourages healthier lifestyles through biometric, fitness, nutrition and other health-related educational advice that emphasize preventing illness and prolonging life. Over 8,000 employers of all sizes participate in the program.

“I am proud to say that Riverside’s mission of excellence in caring and focus on health and wellness is entrenched in our culture and begins with our own employees,” said President and CEO Phil Kambic.

“Our employees have become very actively engaged in REACH, with more than 85% of our staff and 74% of spouses utilizing the program. This has led to a seismic cultural change at Riverside as staff have opted to embrace their own wellbeing and that of others.”
