Riverside Healthcare Urologist, Safi Mohammed, DO recently became one of the first ten in the country to trial new technology to help men who suffer from BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) commonly known as prostate enlargement. Dr. Mohammad was selected to be part of the trial because of his success with patient outcomes and volumes. He is one of three physicians in Illinois and ten in the country to pioneer the trial. “Urolift is a revolutionary solution for men living with BPH. It is designed to end the need for medications designed to treat BPH. A Common Concern

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland in men that surrounds the urethra (the passageway that drains urine from the body). An enlarged prostate presses on and blocks the urethra, which can cause bothersome urinary symptoms.

Additionally, an enlarged prostate can cause sleep issues which can lead to a loss in productivity, depression and an overall decreased quality of life.

This condition is a common and affects over 40 million men in the United States. Over 40 percent of men in their 50s experience enlarged prostates and that number jumps to 80 percent by the time men are in their 70s.

Most men living with enlarged prostate symptoms take prescription medications after they’re diagnosed. Often the prescriptions don’t provide adequate relief and may cause dizziness, fatigue, and sexual dysfunction.

Riverside Healthcare has welcomed LaTivia Carr, RN, MSN, NEA-BC to the position of Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.    

In her new role, Carr is responsible for the administration of nursing services at Riverside Healthcare. She will have oversight of ancillary nursing, Magnet, clinical resource management, medical, surgical, critical care and observation nursing and women and children’s services and reports directly to the President & CEO.

Carr has served as the Director of Nursing at Riverside since 2015. She began her new role in May.
